I have issued this challenge to the staff of the Cowboy State Daily and also to all our readers. Who is the smartest political observer of them all?
Just fill out this simple quiz and email it to: Bill@cowboystatedaily.com. You need to get it to me before election day on Nov. 5.
Winner will get a coffee table book from me.
Pick the winner in these six races. Here is the quiz:
1. President
Donald Trump
Kamala Harris
2. U.S. Senate. Will unofficial results election night show the GOP taking over the national U. S. Senate with 51 seats or more?
Yes
No
3. Wyoming House District 33
Sarah Penn (R)
Ivan Posey (D)
4. Will Wyoming Property Tax amendment pass?
Yes
No
5. Montana U.S. Senate
Jon Tester (D)
Tim Sheehy (R)
6. Colorado U.S. House
Lauren Boebert (R)
Trisha Calvarese (D)
7. Tie-breaker
How many votes will be cast unofficially in Wyoming in the 2024 general election as of election night?
Please include your name, address, phone number, and email address and send your entry to bill@cowboystatedaily.com. Our reigning champion is Tom Lacock of Cheyenne.
Here in Wyoming
Let me try to anticipate the races from my prospective.
On a national level, I am voting for Donald Trump as will about two-thirds of the voters in the Cowboy State. A lot of people believe he will win.
Cowboy State Executive Editor Jimmy Orr bet me an extra-large Dairy Queen Blizzard that Trump will win. He thinks it will “be a landslide,” even.
I am anxious to buy him that blizzard but I fear that Kamala Harris will win because of some illegal immigrants being allowed to vote.
If just a fraction of them, let’s assume 100,000 are allowed, it would tip this election in key precincts in swing states. That 100,000 would be just one percent of the estimated 10 million illegals.
The Far Left is so much smarter than the Republicans on these things. I fear it will be a repeat of 2020 when Joe Biden’s crew used legal Covid-era election variances to score extra votes for the Democrats.
It is important to note that most of my liberal friends and relatives (yes, I have a few) think I am bat sh*t crazy with this theory. Oh well.
My second question is about whether the Republicans can take over the U. S. Senate. This is a long shot. Polls show it is just too close to call.
If Trump is elected and both houses of Congress are controlled by Republicans after Tuesday night, wow, that will be something to celebrate.
Not likely, though.
Reservation District, Amendment Vote
In Wyoming there is one very unique legislative district. It is House District 33 which covers much of the Wind River Indian Reservation and has been represented by Indians in recent years like Andi LeBeau and Pat Goggles.
Most recently, Freedom Caucus star Sarah Penn (a non-Indian) has held the seat. This year she is challenged by Democrat Ivan Posey, a very respected Shoshone elder.
This is too close to call but I think Ivan might win.
The amendment to change how property is taxed is probably going to fail, although I am going to vote for it.
I like the idea of residential property being taxed as just that, not lumped in with lots of other types of property. That is a question for you to answer, though.
Regional Races
Since this quiz is to see how political savvy you are, I reached out to two regional races to fill out the quiz.
Up in Montana, Democrat incumbent U. S. Senator Jon Tester is in the fight of his life against Republican Tim Sheehy.
Trump has been campaigning hard against Tester in this race. Republicans think this might be their best chance to nab a seat from the Dems.
Down in Colorado, the notorious Lauren Boebert is in a tight race to retain a seat in the U. S. Congress. She campaigned in Wyoming in 2022 for U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman at a Trump rally in Casper.
Can her high name recognition see her defeat her Democrat opponent Trisha Calvarese? We shall see.
How To Break A Tie
In case we have too many smart people, I threw in a tie breaker where I am asking you to tell me how many votes will be cast in Wyoming on election day? This will be the unofficial total.
Leo Wolfson, our political reporter, thinks the total will be 287,408 – now that is pretty-doggoned precise. I think he is high.
Meanwhile, most of all, please vote. Wyoming citizens generally believe in voting. See you at the polls.
It will be nice to have another presidential race behind us, no matter who wins.
