After a dayslong search for a pair of young children from Sheridan who were taken Sunday by their mother, a non-custodial parent, local police have called off an alert asking people to be on the lookout for them.

The Sheridan Police Department announced Wednesday night it’s cancelling the Endangered Person Advisory for 4-year-old Lindsey Fogli and her 3-year-old brother Colin.

Although police have not yet made contact with their mother, Erin Garretson, they were contacted by a credible thirdparty speaking on Garretson's behalf and have good reason to believe the children are safe, said Cpt. Tom Ringley with the SPD.

"We no longer believe there is an emergency or reason for the alert," he told Cowboy State Daily.

Initially, the children's father had filed a protective court order against Garretson from another state that has yet to be served to Garretson, who Wednesday in Wyoming applied for an opposing protective order against the children's father.

"I think this is a matter best solved in the courts," Ringley said.

He declined to provide where the mother and children are, only that they are not in Sheridan County.

Before making contact with the third party, the last believed sighting of them in Casper.

Ringley told Cowboy State Daily earlier Wednesday that an Amber Alert was not issued because there was no articulated immediate threat to meet the threshold of that particular alert.
