Cowboy State Daily, Wyoming’s largest news organization, will expand to the airwaves Tuesday as a large number of radio stations across the state begin airing its newscasts.

The digital outlet, which has 50,000 subscribers to its 7-day-a-week digital newspaper, has seen a meteoric rise in readership over the last 18 months and is now the only true statewide publication.

The site averages more than 4 million page views a month, the largest in the state by a large margin, and is growing steadily.

Branching into radio seemed like a natural fit, said co-founder and Executive Editor Jimmy Orr.

“We have so much original journalism from a fantastically talented group of real Wyoming reporters who all have radio experience as well,” Orr said.

“Everyone is comfortable in both mediums, and that’s evident when you hear the newscasts,” he said.

But the real “clincher,” Orr said, was colleague Wendy Corr — who has 18 years of radio experience, including as a six-time Wyoming Broadcaster of the Year. She's been part of the Cowboy State Daily team since its inception.

“No one is better than Wendy,” Orr said. “Listen to her newscasts and you’ll hear it. She is a pro’s-pro, and she knew how to build this radio effort. Just plug and play.

"No one better than Wendy."

Orr said he was encouraged by the number of radio stations that reached out when Cowboy State Daily announced the radio effort.

“It’s great hearing from so many radio stations,” Orr said. “We’re grateful to them that they want us to be on their team. We promise to be a great partner.”

The morning newscast will continue to be placed on the website, in the morning newsletter and on Cowboy State Daily's YouTube page. Podcasts are on the way as well, he said.

Orr said the following radio stations will air the CSD the newscasts in the morning, afternoon and evening. More radio stations will be added soon.
