CASPER — ATF agents served a search warrant Friday in a quiet Casper cul-de-sac, and at least one person was taken into custody.
Federal agents serving the warrant drew neighbors to their windows Friday morning as law enforcement vehicles filled the street.
Agents went in and out of the 3400 block of Provence Court and spoke with several people while Casper police and other local agencies supported the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives operation.
"The operation was successful and there is no threat to the public,” Casper Police Department spokesperson Rebecka Ladd told Cowboy State Daily on Friday morning.
She did not identify the subject of the investigation or describe what agents found.
One In Custody
Cowboy State Daily saw one person taken into custody by law enforcement. A person later was visible behind the barred rear window of a blue Casper police SUV parked outside a neighboring blue-and-brick building.
A man wearing jeans and a black tactical vest stood beside the partially lowered window, facing the person inside.
Nearby, two agents in dark shirts marked “ATF POLICE” in bold yellow letters stood beside a white SUV.
They wore tan pants, boots and holstered handguns, and talked with a woman carrying a dark rectangular case under one arm.
A uniformed Casper officer and several people in plain clothes also gathered in the street. Some wore short-sleeved shirts and jeans, with badges and holstered handguns visible at their waists.
Dark SUVs lined part of the street between the two-story townhomes.
‘Normally Quiet’
Neighbor Taylor Dupont watched from his balcony while his teenage son peeked through the windows at the commotion.
Dupont described the cul-de-sac as normally quiet. Two young men had moved in a couple of weeks earlier, he said.
He said a truck with Colorado plates pulled up Friday morning, and it seemed to him as though agents had been waiting for it.
Dupont said he had gone downstairs to do laundry when he noticed the heavy police presence.
Suddenly, he said, there were about a dozen law enforcement vehicles.
Search Warrant
For resident Joanna Clement, the activity came as she was finishing a move out of the neighborhood.
“I just walked out back and seen everyone,” she said in a written message. “Didn't hear anything.”
Clement said she had lived there for three years and that neighbors usually kept to themselves.
The law enforcement presence did not particularly trouble her.
“If I'm being honest, it doesn't bother me really,” she said. “Obviously it's a drug bust."
Ladd confirmed agents were serving a search warrant but did not say whether the investigation involved drugs.
