If our Democrat friends are truly the college-educated party in America, as polls seem to indicate, then we've got a serious problem with college education in America.
The faculty lounge is doing a rotten job directing our liberal political party.
Polls claim college-educated Americans ascribe to the increasingly far-left beliefs of the Democratic Party. This, despite the fact that it has led them down some remarkably goofy paths.
Frequently these days, traditional (not insane) Democrats are being pushed aside by bat-guano crazy socialists and communists screaming about lunatic stuff like “ending” law enforcement and closing prisons. They ascribe to the economic beliefs that brought down the Soviet Union.
Whatever happened to the not-crazy Democrats who for decades made Chicago “the City that Works?” Chicago today – steadfastly standing on the side of street crime rather than accept help from the despised President Donald Trump – is the antithesis of the storied, safer days of Mayor Richard J. Daley.
Whatever happened to the meat-and-potatoes Democrats who supported their unions, liked Daley's firm hand, and voted in every election for a local government that would crack heads if necessary to keep the City by the Lake safe and prosperous? Where did those Democrats go?
When polls categorize college-educated Americans as favoring this decline, it's insulting to college-educated conservatives, like me, who do not think we should “end” law enforcement, close prisons, and who still believe government should live within it's means, and pay down a national debt that now stands at $40 trillion.
Don't they teach that stuff in college anymore?
I'm the lesser educated guy at our house, with a BA degree in English. My wife has a master's degrees in anthropology and nursing, and worked as a nurse practitioner. Despite her advanced degrees, nobody would ever mistake her for a liberal Democrat. She's the rock-ribbed Republican in our house.
(A lightning-fast thinker, she's usually got two devastating counter-arguments for any stance I might have been unwise enough to have offered up, before I can even get my wayward opinion stated. It's brutal.)
So, more education is not synonymous with liberal thinking at our house. Not by a long shot.
“It's more about indoctrination than education on campus these days,” she says succinctly.
You have to wonder how a major political party could be wooed by wild-eyed socialists who think doing away with law enforcement is a swell idea.
Democrats today are apparently in favor of throwing open the borders again, despite the tragic crimes that policy sparked, and doing away with the entire customs and immigration enforcement structure. Name me another country that has done such a foolish thing.
Who in the faculty lounges of our colleges and universities came up with the idea of open borders, a notion that Democrats bought hook, line, sinker, tackle box, bait bucket and trolling motor?
Likewise, what rocket scientist came up with the brainchild of “no cash bail,” allowing apprehended perpetrators to remain free to roam our streets and re-offend?
Who thought that was a good idea? And what advanced degree from what expensive, elite university did that misguided person hold?
Are the highly-educated people in the Democratic Party OK with this atrocious trend of attacking Jewish students on some of our most elite college campuses? What rigorous curriculum supported by educated Democrats leads you down that ruinous path to late 1930s Germany?
And lastly, if our Democrat friends really want to close prisons, as their loudest, craziest members espouse, are we supposed to live in a country that frees a monster like the guy who knifed to death four college students in Idaho? Shouldn't that guy remain behind bars forever?
How about the kid who murdered Charlie Kirk, or the one who brazenly shot insurance executive Brian Thompson in the back? Should they be out on the street among us?
Is this what the Democratic Party has evolved into?
Like a lot of us, I was once a Democrat, before getting a job and coming to my senses.
But, if that Democratic Party stood then for the things it apparently stands for today, I think even in my 20s I'd have had more sense than to have bought into this pig in a poke.
