Dear editor:
An opportunity postponed is an opportunity lost.
I spoke before the Cheyenne City Council to oppose the proposed 12-month moratorium on new data center construction and am writing today to thank the council for its wise decision to vote it down.
As a CPA and through the various roles I have played within the State, I have spent the better part of my career working to bring jobs and opportunities to Wyoming (especially in the tech sector).
By rejecting this delay, our city leaders have kept Cheyenne on a path of economic growth and innovation at a time when such opportunities are increasingly rare. Data centers may not be perfect, but they represent a clean industry that we should embrace. As long as we provide proper guardrails, they should help our community grow in a sustainable manner.
Postponing that progress does not mean treading water until the end of the moratorium, it means losing any headway we are making.
I appreciate the council’s willingness to listen to residents, weigh the concerns thoughtfully, and ultimately choose forward momentum over hesitation. This vote sends a strong message that Cheyenne is open for responsible development.
Thank you again to the Cheyenne City Council for making the right choice for our city’s future.
Sincerely,
David A. Pope, Cheyenne
