Rep. Bob Nicholas, R-Cheyenne, easily won reelection to House District 7 in Tuesday’s general election.
With six of seven vote centers reporting, he had 1,256 votes to his Democratic Challenger Jordan Evans’ 494 votes, a margin of 762 votes. Write-ins totaled 20, with six of seven precincts reporting. That’s a 71% to 28% margin.
Nicholas also easily defeated Kathy Russell in the Republican primary. Russell, who is aligned with the growing Freedom Caucus, was a formidable challenger being the Wyoming Republican Party’s executive director.
Nicholas had beaten Evans before in the 2022 general election, by about 750 votes.
Evans, a native resident of Cheyenne, has a B.S. from the University of Wyoming and does mapping for local governments and utilities and said he would focus on bringing more civility to the legislature.
Nicholas campaigned on lowering residential property taxes if elected, and has already been working with other lawmakers on a solution that is a blend of previous efforts.
It will be his eighth term in office.
