The popular Mirror Lake Picnic and Fishing Site near the base of Medicine Bow Peak in Wyoming’s Snowy Range reopened Saturday morning after the discovery of a body in the area Thursday.

The unidentified body was found about 7 p.m. July 4 near Mirror Lake off Highway 130, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The area was closed to visitors Thursday evening and remained closed all day Friday as law enforcement investigated the scene.

Little information has been released about the body or the circumstances surrounding that person’s death, including identification, and the cause and manner of death.

Albany Sheriff Aaron Appelhans told Cowboy State Daily on Saturday that he could not provide any additional information, nor could he specify the gender of the deceased.

“There's no additional information I can release at this time,” he said. “We'll have more information that we can release a little bit later on in the week.”

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office was aided on scene by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation Crime Scene Unit.

“We are saddened by this unfortunate discovery, but we remain committed to finding a resolution and bringing closure to the affected family,” Sheriff Appelhans said in an earlier statement.
