Authorities are investigating an early-morning Riverton house fire in which a person was found dead as suspicious.

The Riverton 911 center received a call regarding a housefire at about 2:20 Friday morning on the 1300 block of East Main Street - a couple blocks east of the city's main park, according to a Friday statement by the Riverton Police Department.

Someone’s girlfriend was reported as trapped in the house, an RPD call log from that moment says.

Emergency personnel arrived at the burning home and found a dead person inside, says RPD's statement.

The statement does not specify whether the deceased person was in fact a woman, but says an autopsy is scheduled for next week.

First responders found the cause of the fire suspicious, reportedly.

Both an ambulance and the Fremont County Coroner responded to the scene as well, according to their call logs.
