Every year, the lighting of the National Christmas Tree is a fantastic celebration. It brings in the holidays like nothing else.
Then came along 2020. And it all stopped. Kind of.
Because the lighting is still happening. Or, actually, it still happened. But it wasn’t a live event because of — like everything else — the pandemic. It was filmed outside the White House on Monday and it’s available to watch today.
For the first time ever, it’s an on-demand event.
It’s just like “Breaking Bad” or “Ozark” — without the drugs and the murders (as far as we know, we haven’t watched it yet).
As some background, this year’s Christmas tree is a 30-foot Colorado blue spruce.
Wyoming has only supplied the National Christmas Tree one time and that was back in 1972.
That’s when trees were trees. The Wyoming National Christmas Tree was 75 feet tall. It was a Engelmann spruce from the Medicine Bow National Forest.
Last year, Wyoming’s Rob Wallace — who is the Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife in the Department of Interior — had a big role in the ceremony, speaking right after President Trump.
