Wyoming’s senior senator introduced a bill Thursday that would use unspent COVID-19 money to finish the southern border wall, if it passes.

Senate bill 42 would transfer unobligated money from the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds to the building of walls along the U.S. Southern border. It’s titled the “Build the Wall Act of 2025.”

“Before the Biden administration’s disastrous border policies, we were well on our way to a secure and safe southern border. Now, every state is a border state, and dangerous criminals and cartels are entering our communities,” said Barrasso in a statement. “This bill will allow us to use money we already have to finish the wall and protect our national security. Border walls work. Securing the border is a top priority for Senate Republicans and President Trump.”

President-elect Donald Trump has long strategized about completing a wall on the southern border with Mexico, and is planning to implement a tough-on-illegal-immigration stance after his inauguration Jan. 20.

Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyoming, is a cosponsor of the Build the Wall Act. It's now pending in the U.S. Senate.
