The Gillette Police Department took one of its own officers into custody Monday, after Utah authorities said the man was wanted on suspicion of a sex crime, witness tampering, and disseminating a private record.

Christopher Goree faces four felonies in total, says a Monday-evening statement by the city of Gillette.

The Utah Department of Public Safety contacted the Gillette Police Department through the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation on Monday, saying Utah authorities had a warrant for Goree.

GPD took Goree into custody and took him to the Campbell County Detention Center, says the city’s statement.

GPD hired Goree in September, and he was still in his training period, says the statement.

The Utah investigation into Goree started one month prior, in August.

“GPD was only made aware of the investigation on Dec. 2,” the statement adds. “GPD has placed Goree on administrative leave pending termination proceedings.”
