Dear editor:

A time to live and a time to die, says the author of Ecclesiastes.

For the world who loves Grizzly Bear 399, a time to die became an appointed reality this week. And the time to live also has an appointed time and that is with our vote.

Vote to protect her legacy, her children, her grandchildren, and her family. Vote in a government to protect the grizzly bears.

If we fail her, the grizzlies could wake next spring to the sounds of running, running from gunshots. Do not let the government delist grizzly bears!!

If we fail her, your public lands may become commercialized and developed. If you were listening, Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance, said the Trump plan is to build housing on public lands. Listen to what he is saying!!!

The western landscape will be forever changed, and with that, the destruction of wildlife habitat. The goal of those in power now.

What is happening to the wolves will happen to the grizzlies. Do not let these same politicians have power again. They legislate with the taste of wildlife blood. Whether it is wolves, grizzlies or the bison in Yellowstone.

Make honoring her an issue every election. Hold your representatives and senators accountable to protecting wildlife and protecting public lands

The days of automatically voting along party lines are over. Know who you are voting for. The party does not matter. Although, it is very clear the current Republicans, govern with favor towards ranchers, farming, and hunting communities. As well as the very wealthy.

If we make the wrong choices, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons could be a private billionaires club only. Free of any wildlife. Think about that!

Honor 399 forever and choose to protect the grizzly bears!

Sincerely,

Kimberly Smith
