U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman believes the surprise guilty plea Hunter Biden gave Thursday to nine federal tax charges is just the tip of an iceberg that includes his father, President Joe Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Hunter Biden and all of Joe Biden’s handlers, including his vice president, are guilty of much more,” she said in a statement to Cowboy State Daily.

Hunter Biden pleaded guilty after previously denying allegations that he intentionally avoided paying $1.4 million in income tax from 2016-2019.

The plea came after he told his legal team that he did not want to subject his family to another trial like the one that was held in Delaware three months ago where he was convicted on three felony gun charges.

His guilty plea marks a significant juncture in the more than five-year investigation into the period of his life when he was using his fame and father’s position to secure lucrative contracts to support his drug and alcohol addiction while not paying his taxes.

The plea deal did not come in exchange for a sentence reduction.

Earlier Thursday, Hunter Biden tried to make an Alford plea, which is a defendant’s acknowledgement that there’s enough evidence to be convicted while still professing innocence. Prosecutors said they would oppose any plea that did not involve Hunter Biden’s unconditional guilt.

What will be even more significant is Hunter Biden’s sentencing in mid-December, where the world will find out whether he gets prison time and if so, how much. He now faces a maximum prison sentence of up to 17 years and a fine of up to $1.3 million, on top of the possible sentence of 25 years for his firearms convictions.

Joe Biden has consistently denied that he will pardon his son.

“Corruption runs deep in the Biden-Harris orbit,” Hageman said. “The Biden-Harris corruptocrats believe they are above reproach and have spent decades profiting off the backs of the American people.”

Hageman And The Bidens

Earlier this year, Hageman called the Bidens the most corrupt family in a position of power in U.S. history.

Hunter Biden has consistently maintained that his father has had no involvement in his business dealings, which have also fallen under scrutiny.

Hageman and many other congressional Republicans have put President Biden and his son under close scrutiny for their relations with various international figures. In late 2023, she cast a vote in support of a formal impeachment inquiry into the president.

Hageman has said she thinks Joe Biden had some level of interaction with his son’s businesses — businesses that were set up for the purpose of receiving payments directly from foreign governments and individuals, including many who were hostile to the U.S.

Over the past year, House Republicans have conducted investigations into Biden’s actions, which although has raised certain levels of intrigue and suspicion on certain fronts, have failed to produce any concrete evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors on the president’s part.

Biden’s supporters have called these investigations partisan attacks with no real basis or evidence.

Changed Landscape

Hunter Biden’s guilty plea comes after his lawyers were on the cusp of getting him a no-prison plea agreement last year.

That agreement imploded in July 2023 when the judge rejected said offer.

The special counsel on Hunter Biden’s case subsequently ended up indicting him for the firearms application and a range of other tax violations.
