While Wyoming Cowboys football may appear to be canceled this year, Gov. Mark Gordon said Wednesday he thought he could scrounge up a friendly game for the Cowboys.

Gordon, speaking during a news conference, said he planned to call his colleague Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts to see if a game could be arranged between Wyoming and Nebraska.

“I’m going to call … and say ‘Do you think we can do this together,’” he said. “Hey, I’m ready to play.”

The Mountain West Conference, which the Cowboys belong to, and the Big 10 Conference, which the Cornhuskers belong to, have both announced there will be no conference sports played this fall.

Gordon said the announcement was very disappointing, especially given the fact it applies to sports other than football.

“It’s all the sports, golf, women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s soccer,” he said. “For the fans and athletes it is absolutely devastating. I think everyone is disappointed.”
