Here in the United States, we have the freedom to drive to an air-conditioned church, read our Bibles at night, and cook dinner. These things are normal to us, and we often see them as evidence of God’s provision. Yet just 90 miles south of Florida, Cubans are living without food, drinkable water, and power—even the Christians.
Despite Cuba's harsh living conditions today, God’s people are pursuing Him tenaciously; some walk ten or more miles to church in temperatures over 100F. They trust Him for everything from toothbrushes to drinking water and share what little they have with joy.
Vision Beyond Borders recently sent a team there with Bibles and provisions. They came home inspired and changed by what they saw.
One of our contacts dug a well at home in response to the clean-water shortage. The water is clean and fresh, not brackish or murky, and they only had to dig for three meters!
God’s miraculous well made more provision possible. They have been giving their neighbors free water. In return, they received a propane tank to prepare food and boil water, and four batteries so they can have some power despite blackouts. It is amazing how God’s provision in one area opens the door to another, while also creating an opportunity to show how faithful He is.
We hear countless stories of miraculous provision and selfless giving. Witches are repenting as they experience God's kindness through His people.
“Through all of this, I see the blessing that VBB has been,” said Altia, our team member. “The provision the pastors are receiving is showing them the hand of God, letting them know they are not alone and that God will never abandon them. Their worship is powerful because they choose to praise amid such hard circumstances. They are a true remnant.”
At Vision Beyond Borders, we see that as people increasingly turn to Christ, the need for Bibles continues to grow.
