No one is in police custody after a deadly stabbing Sunday night in Riverton, but investigators said they have identified and interviewed those involved.

When the call came into Fremont County dispatch at 8:09 p.m. Sunday from a home on the corner of Riverview Road and South Major Avenue, a woman reported that a male had pushed her, and she had stabbed him, according to a statement from the Riverton Police Department and the agency’s call log.

Officers arrived to find a male dead on scene. Occupants in the home told officers that a “disturbance” happened at the home and the male was “allegedly stabbed,” says the statement.

The Riverton Police Department originally believed the incident was in its jurisdiction and asked anyone with information on the incident to call its detectives.

But by Wednesday, local agencies realized the incident had happened in the jurisdiction of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.

No one was in custody as of Thursday afternoon and the investigation was ongoing, Fremont County Undersheriff Mike Hutchison told Cowboy State Daily.

“(Riverton police) passed everything over to us,” Hutchison said. There’s not a manhunt. Investigators know the identities of those involved and have interviewed them, he added.

“The investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the death,” said Hutchison.
