Two hours after she falls asleep every night, China Bosh’s nightmares wake her.
It’s been that way since the early morning hours of Saturday, when China was stabbed five times in her arm, twice in her chest and once in the face, she told Cowboy State Daily on Tuesday.
Accused of stabbing her, China’s husband John Bosh is charged with attempted second-degree murder and is being held in the Campbell County Detention Center on a $750,000 bond.
John filed for divorce in May after nearly three years of marriage and a few years of dating. They both had a change of heart and tried to mend their marriage in recent weeks, but that only led to more arguing, said China.
John was drinking heavily Friday night at his grandmother’s house, says an evidentiary affidavit filed in the case.
When John’s grandmother left the living room where the pair were arguing, John went into the kitchen and retrieved a knife. China tried to leave, but John pushed her back onto the couch and she curled up in a fetal position, says the affidavit.
She felt a hit to her chest.
“I didn’t really feel any (stabbing sensation) at first — more of a shock after it got done,” China told Cowboy State Daily. “All I could say was, ‘You stabbed me.’”
She didn’t even realize she’d been stabbed until she looked down at her shirt and noticed blood soaking through it. He kept stabbing downward at her in an overhand motion, the affidavit says.
The document says he then stopped stabbing her, and asked if she was going to listen to him.
Afraid of being stabbed again, she said yes.
He asked if she was going to tell the police what had happened. Again compliant, she said no, the document says.
The affidavit says John gave China a kiss and told her he was going to crash his motorcycle and kill himself.
“I’ll always love you,” he said, according to the document. “I’m sorry I stabbed you.”
Then he left the house.
It wasn’t until the adrenaline started to wear off that the pain set in, China told Cowboy State Daily.
Later at the hospital, China told an investigator the pain was a “20” on a 1-10 scale.
On The Run
John fled, authorities announced Saturday in an attempt to find him. They had him in police custody by 10 a.m. Sunday.
John told Circuit Court Judge Lynda Bush at his Monday initial appearance that he “came back” to turn himself in.
China said her understanding was, rather, that John took refuge in his grandmother’s home until police surrounded it.
Gillette Police Department Deputy Chief Brent Wasson did not immediately respond to a voicemail request for clarification.
John did not have an attorney as of Monday, and it’s unclear if he will be working with a private or public attorney. The Campbell County Public Defender’s Office declined Tuesday to comment.
Surgery Scheduled
China is scheduled for a Thursday surgery in Gillette, she said. She also hopes to learn at that time whether the nerve damage in her arm is permanent.
Since the attack, she describes fighting back nightmares and that she’s afraid to be alone with men, and tries to keep other women around herself as much as possible.
It helps when her sister-in-law stays with her, she added.
China said her children are doing all right. She’s starting counseling, and she’s planning to attend a support group.
At Keyhole
John was convicted prior following a violent attack at Keyhole State Park east of Gillette.
China was the victim that time as well.
The pair were still dating at that time. They shared a child and were living together, says the affidavit in that case.
A man called park rangers to say that he’d found a woman crying out “call the police,” and that he’d seen a man fleeing, covered in blood.
The caller and two other male witnesses later told investigators they saw a man, identified as John, chasing China through the campsites, to a bathroom facility in about a quarter-mile chase.
China ducked into the female side of the bathroom and locked John out. He hit and kicked the door until it burst open, the document says.
The witnesses lost sight of the pair, but they soon emerged together, with John holding China’s arm. She broke free and ran to the three men. One of them put her in his truck while the other two chased John away, says the affidavit.
John fled the scene, the document adds.
When investigators interviewed China, she reported that John choked her out in the bathroom until she blacked out, and he beat her. Later at the hospital, she said her ribs were broken.
Investigators found the bathroom door damaged and the bathroom covered in shattered glass and blood spatter. China’s cellphone was broken into pieces, the document says.
China told Cowboy State Daily that police later found John at his home in Gillette and arrested him.
After a lengthy prosecution marked by psychological examinations, John was sentenced in February 2021 to three years of supervised probation, during which he was ordered to avoid alcohol.
He was also ordered to pay $2,267.70 in restitution to Crook County Medical Services District, $15,000 in restitution to the Wyoming Division of Victim Services, and other court costs and fees.
‘Definitely Get Out’
Four months after John was placed on probation for choking China, the pair got married.
China wept when she recalled it.
“I got back together with him for our son, so our son had a father,” she said.
But nothing could persuade her to go back this time should John be released, China added.
“Just the fact that he took it as far as trying to kill me. You don’t kill somebody that you love — or try to kill somebody you love,” said China. “I have absolutely no feeling left inside me for that man.”
And to other women who might be headed down the same path, China has some hard-won advice.
“Definitely get out. I know it’s hard to get out,” she said. “But it’s better to get out and keep yourself safe than have to go through something like I did. Sooner or later it’s going to get there.”
