A Gillette, Wyoming, man is in jail after police say he repeatedly stabbed a 30-year-old woman in her torso and arms before eluding police for a day.
John Stetson Bosh, 31, appeared in Gillette Circuit Court for his bond hearing Monday afternoon. A judge ordered him held on a $750,000 cash or surety bond.
He addressed the judge respectfully in subdued, lethargic tones.
Bosh told the court he had been convicted of aggravated assault, a felony, about five years prior.
When it was his turn to rattle off Bosh’s criminal history, Campbell County Attorney Nathan Henkes said the felony was actually a 2018 conviction for strangulation of a household member – which carries the same potential prison sentence of 10 years as Wyoming’s aggravated assault charge.
Bosh had failed to appear in court as scheduled a couple times as well, said Henkes.
Henkes asked Circuit Court Judge Lynda Bush to set Bosh’s bond at $750,000 cash or commercial surety – a high-level bond to reflect that Bosh had fled the stabbing scene on Friday, according to police. The bond request was also based on the violence of the crimes he was charged with and his past criminal history, Henkes said.
Henkes listed other past charges including a pair of DUIs, property destruction and unlawful conduct.
“Looking at the seriousness and the danger to the person or the community in general, the state would submit that’s great,” Henkes said. “So much so that law enforcement actually put a bulletin out to the community in general, hoping to locate the defendant.”
The City of Gillette dispatched an alert Friday afternoon saying the Gillette Police Department was looking for Bosh. Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing about 195 pounds, Bosh was expected to be traveling on a black 2023 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Police responded in the early morning hours of Oct. 4 to the 900 block of West Eighth Street, Gillette, to find a 30-year-old woman stabbed repeatedly in the torso and arms, the city’s statement says.
Emergency personnel took the woman to Campbell County Health. Bosh fled the scene before officers arrived but was identified as the suspect, the statement says.
By 10 a.m. Saturday, police had arrested Bosh, according to an updated statement.
Bosh turned himself in, according to his own court testimony – a factor he noted when Judge Bush asked if he had any counterpoint to Henkes’ bond request.
“I do have concerns about you being a danger to the community, and I do have concerns about you being a flight risk,” Bush said.
She honored Henkes’ bond request, which included other provisions. Bosh is to have no contact with a female witness or be near his alleged victim. He’s to have no alcohol and, if released, he’s to wear a GPS ankle monitor.
Bosh did not have a lawyer as of Monday afternoon but told the court he would likely hire one.
His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 15.
