Update: Wyoming Department of Transportation reported the highway reopened at 11:30 a.m.

An "armed, barricaded suspect" prompted a law-enforcement response on Highway 20-26 between Moneta and Casper on Saturday morning. The suspect was in custody by midday and authorities were working to reopen the road, authorities say.

The incident didn't involve a shooting, Natrona County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kiera Grogan told Cowboy State Daily in an email.

Shawncey Day, Wyoming Highway Patrol spokesman, said the incident involved an armed and barricaded suspect inside his or her vehicle on the highway near mile marker 17 - not far from the airport outside of Casper.

Law enforcement officers were able to communicate with the suspect "effectively," and he or she surrendered peacefully, says a statement by the sheriff's office.

The suspect is in custody.

The statement says that "personnel are working to reopen the highway as quickly as possible," and that more information will be released by the Wyoming Highway Patrol when it's available.
