The Wyoming Highway Patrol on Sunday has confirmed one fatality after a truck crashed through a guardrail on Saturday on Casper Mountain near Lookout Point.

Authorities say the 2003 Ford F-150, driven by Mills resident Lowell Campbell, failed to navigate the turn on Wyoming Highway 251 and went through the guardrail.

The truck went airborne over the mountainside near milepost 7 at 3:56pm, authorities said.

“Driver inattention and speed is being investigated as a potential contributing factor,” said an unnamed spokesperson in a release.

Sydney Jackson told Cowboy State Daily she saw emergency lights on the mountain about an hour after the accident and expected the worst.

“You never like to see those lights,” she said. “You can’t imagine that anything good is happening. It was ominous just to see it.”

This is the 129th fatality on Wyoming’s highways so far this year.
