Makeup mogul and YouTube star Jeffree Star has posted a video blog offering details about the car accident that landed him and his best friend in the hospital last month.
In a 30-minute video entitled “The TRUTH About My Car Accident,” Star discusses not only the accident, but what he has been up to in the last few weeks. He shared his feelings about the terrifying situation, as well as what he thought about people who wished he’d died in the rollover crash.
“I have driven on the road my car flipped on every single day since I moved here, and I’ve been a Wyoming resident for over six months,” Star said. “We were in some really crazy weather. No, we were not speeding. No, there were no drugs involved. There was nothing wrong here except the weather and an accident.”
Star and his best friend Daniel Lucas were injured in the accident on Hat Six Road near Casper when Star’s Rolls Royce hit some slush on the road, causing it to leave the roadway and roll multiple times.
“I’m in excruciating pain because part of my back is broken and I have vertebrae fractures on my spine. My doctor said it will take a few months but I should make a full recovery,” Star wrote on Twitter following the accident, which he called one of the scariest moments of his life.
Lucas, who suffered internal injuries in the crash, was taken to Las Vegas for surgery. Lucas has been treated for colon cancer multiple times, creating medical complications.
Star referenced his back injury in the video, addressing the back brace he would have to continue wearing for another five weeks. The video also included clips of Star from the hospital, saying that although he and Lucas tend to joke about serious topics, the crash almost caused them to lose their lives.
He added in the video that while the two received tremendous amounts of support, there were also people who wished they hadn’t survived the crash.
“I think we won the Guinness Book of World Records of most people telling us they wished we’d died,” Star said.
Since the crash, Star has launched a new line of makeup through his brand, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, which is worth about $1.5 billion.
