Lisa knows Wyoming.
Lisa was born and raised in Laramie Wyoming. She has a BA in Spanish from the University of Wyoming, A Masters of Library Science from the University of Oregon, and a JD from the Wyoming College of Law. She is an accomplished mother, librarian, lawyer, financial planner, lawmaker, writer, and photographer. She was the Albany County Public Library Director from 1976-83. She conducted the Summit Bar Review, teaching Wyoming and national law, from 1986 to 2001. She was a law partner at Corthell and King from 1994 to 2000. She was a financial planner for VALIC/AIG Corebridge from 2001 to 2022. Her volunteer efforts are too numerous to mention them all, but it is notable that, in one of her fundraising efforts, she created celebrity calendars that included Craig Thomas, Cynthia Lummis, Al and Pete Simpson, and teachers, doctors and ranchers! That is bipartisan!
Lisa knows how to get things done in government.
Lisa represented Senate District 9 in Albany County from 1984 to 1994. In that time she served on the Judiciary, Education, and Health Committees and served as the minority floor leader. Legislation she passed includes Senate File 52 to establish ownership of gifts and art donations to museums, libraries, and archives. She passed legislation establishing the mechanism for durable power of attorney for health care and legislation to enable optometrists to write prescriptions for eye care medication. Her achievements in the Senate, even while always in the minority party, demonstrate her ability to achieve compromise and get work done. She is the first mother of a newborn to serve in the Wyoming Senate. When it was suggested that she step back because of her child, she said she couldn’t. She had to pave the way for all other new mothers who might want to serve in the future.

She even cajoled James Michner (author of Centennial among many other books) into coming to Laramie Wyoming to speak at a fundraising dinner! Lisa has written or collaborated on many publications herself including short stories, photography specials, and books.

Lisa knows how to make things happen for her community.
Lisa has an extensive library background and she is a fierce advocate for public libraries. In her time with the Albany County Library, she passed a bond issue for a new library and then fund raised to close the budget gap. She even obtained a National Endowment for the Arts grant for the library. She solicited art from local artists for the new library and organized a long line of volunteers to transfer books hand to hand from the old library to the new one.

Lisa knows how to make Washington work for Wyoming.
She will ensure that Wyoming public lands remain public and accessible to all Wyomingites. She will work to make sure that all Wyomingites can afford health insurance and that everyone, including those in remote rural communities, can access the health care they need. Lisa’s priorities include stopping the war, reducing tariffs, lowering costs of prescription drugs, increasing the minimum wage, reinstating the ACA discounts, building a new healthcare strategy, and building a system that makes home ownership more affordable.

Lisa has been endorsed by those who came after her as Senators of State District 9, including Mike Massie and Chris Rothfuss. She has been endorsed by Republican legislators Rex Arney, Tom Jones, and Pattie Macmillan. Of course, she is also endorsed by former Governor Mike Sullivan.
