CHEYENNE — The 40-year-old manager of a local hotel is accused of lying to investigators and helping a two-time convicted child sex offender evade law enforcement while wanted on four new charges of sexual abuse of an underage teen.
Krystal Falk has been charged with accessory after the fact to third-degree sexual abuse of a minor for allegedly actively helping James David Jaure, 42, evade Laramie County Sheriff’s Office investigators trying to arrest him, according to court documents.
When Jaure was finally tracked down and arrested at a hotel in Fort Collins, Colorado, a forensic examination of both of their cellphones showed the couple called each other 139 times and texted 2,417 times over a two-week period after Falk learned Jaure was wanted by the law, according to an affidavit of probable cause written by LCSO Detective Michael Young.
“Five days after I talked with Falk and made her aware that there was an active warrant for Jaure, there were approximately 139 phone calls to and from Jaure,” the affidavit says. “There were 2,417 text messages from July 28, 2026, at 7:06 a.m. until he was taken into custody on Aug. 11.”
Falk made her first court appearance Monday and is free on a $5,000 cash bond she posted the same day. She’s set for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 7, and could get up to three years in prison if convicted.
Jaure had his arraignment on the four sexual abuse of a minor charges in Laramie County District Court on Thursday, and he remains at the county jail on a $200,000 bond.
If convicted, each of his charges calls for a penalty of up to life in prison.
‘In Fear Every Day’
Along with the calls and text messages, Falk’s vehicle was seen on license plate reader cameras in Fort Collins “numerous times” and Jaure was staying at a couple of hotels there using prepaid debit cards, Young wrote.
While Young wrote that he first contacted Falk on July 23 about Jaure being wanted on an arrest warrant for the four sex abuse of a child charges, she denied knowing anything — even after being specifically advised that concealing a person from arrest is a crime.
Along with the cellphone evidence, which includes Jaure having Falk’s number saved under the name “Wifey,” Falk also allegedly admitted to lying to investigators during a recorded jailhouse call with Jaure a month after his eventual arrest, according to the affidavit.
“On Sept. 11, 2026, at approximately 13:42 hours, Falk spoke with Jaure on a recorded jail phone call about law enforcement coming to speak with her,” Young wrote. “Falk told Jaure that the ‘cops’ were just there and trying to ‘build a case’ against her.”
She told him that investigators had examined both of his cellphones — on confiscated before and another one found on him when he was arrested.
“Falk said she ‘figured they were coming to get me, the way they waited.’ She told him she is ‘in fear every day’ and that she ‘didn’t need that,’” the affidavit says.
Then she wondered why the law was still interested in her when Jaure had already been apprehended.
“‘They have you, right? Why won’t they leave me alone?’” Falk asked Jaure on the call.
“Falk was aware of Jaure’s arrest warrant, his new phone number, and his location in Fort Collins, Colo., yet chose not to disclose this information to law enforcement authorities,” Young wrote.
“This action impeded, delayed, and effectively attempted to prevent apprehension and prosecution of Jaure, who had an active arrest warrant,” the affidavit continues.
Because he was allegedly actively leaving the state and not reporting his employment and another secret cellphone he had to authorities, Jaure also faces three more felony charges related to not reporting as a registered sex offender.
You’re So Selfish
The investigation also revealed that Falk also allegedly knew about Jaure’s previous sex abuse convictions and that he’s a registered sex offender, the affidavit says. And also that Jaure had been around her underage children.
Falk told Young that she had known Jaure for a “few years,” and that she was aware of his past because she “Googled him,” the affidavit says.
“I asked Falk how old her kids were, and she said they were 5 and 13,” Young wrote. “She said her children haven’t said anything about Jaure being or acting weird around them.
“Jaure hasn’t been around her children much, and they would tell her if he showed up.”
Jaure worked for Falk at the Red Lion Inn in Cheyenne, and had reported to authorities that he worked the front desk. He also drove a hotel shuttle van, Falk said, which authorities didn’t know about and was a violation of his sex offender reporting.
Among those more than 2,400 text messages was an exchange on July 28 with Jaure asking if they could get together, and Falk telling him that wouldn’t be a good idea, the affidavit says.
“There was a text thread that talked about a refillable credit card or a prepaid gift card being activated,” Young wrote. “Falk told Jaure that it was activated.”
The next day, “Jaure asked Falk in a text message where he needed to meet her and asked if they could meet at the hotel,” the affidavit says. “Falk stated she ‘wouldn’t recommend it.’”
About a week later in another disjointed text exchange, Falk seemed upset with Jaure.
“Maybe you should go google all that shit you’ve lied to me about when it does,” the affidavit says about the texts. “You should go google dirty you’ve been doing me for so long. See how that gets you.
“Because you sure as f*** never lied to better for you and me you just did it for you because you’re so goddamn selfish.”
Then the next day she added that Jaure has “completely destroyed me and hurt me with all your lies and bs and here I am,” the affidavit said. “Yet you feel it’s okay to be cold and hurt me more.
“You have lied to me repeatedly over other women. … Show you love me and want me or let me go.”
After Jaure was arrested Aug. 11 and Young confronted Falk again about what she knew, she answered that “she didn’t want to discuss personal matters” with authorities, the affidavit says.
“I asked about her trips to Fort Collins, Colo., and she stated that she would not answer any questions about her personal life,” Young wrote.
About Those New Charges
The reason the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office was looking for Jaure in the first place was because of an alleged sexual relationship he had with an underage teen girl, according to another affidavit written by Young.
In that case, he’s accused of being inappropriate and making advances on a girl, including molesting and having sexual intercourse with her.
He knew the acts were wrong and worried about getting caught, Young wrote in his affidavit.
Young got involved on June 23 when he began investigating a report of a sexual assault on a teen girl, he wrote.
The girl reported her family was “hanging out” with some friends on a Friday night in a group that included Jaure, the affidavit says. At the end of the night, Jaure gave her a hug, but she didn’t feel anything was out of the ordinary about it.
The next day, the girl told investigators she started to notice some “red flags” in text messages with Jaure, the affidavit says. “Jaure asked if she had fun and how the snacks were, and then the conversation ‘got weird.’”
The girl told Young that Jaure told her that they were both “sensual people” and that a certain type of music “gets me in trouble sometimes,” Young wrote.
Later that night in a car alone with Jaure giving her a ride somewhere, he “had his hand on her thigh” while driving, the girl said, according to the affidavit.
“I asked her what she was thinking (at that time), and she said he was ‘f***ing creepy,’” Young wrote. The girl “went on to say that part of her was ‘weirded out.’”
Jaure parked, and told the girl not to be afraid to touch him while he also began to fondle her breasts and vagina, the affidavit says. The sexual contact continued with Jaure allegedly exposing himself and asking the girl to perform a sex act on him.
Things progressed to Jaure having sexual intercourse with the girl in his vehicle that night, the affidavit says.
‘Delete That LOL’
“After they finished, they drove around for a while and talked about random things,” the affidavit says. “Jaure told her numerous times that it was ‘our little secret’ and that she had to promise not to tell anyone.”
Following that, Jaure seemed to become obsessed with the teen. They exchanged 632 text messages over a two-day period, according to the affidavit.
In some of those messages, Jaure would tell the teen that he would “rather be there” and would “rather cuddle you,” the affidavit says. Then follow up with, “Delete that lol.”
One exchange shows Jaure allegedly knew his age, 42, was a problem in having a relationship with an underage teen.
“Yes and im much older,” he texted the girl.
“How old are you exactly,” she answered.
“42.”
“You could be my dad,” she texted.
“Exactly,” he responded.
In addition to the new charges he faces, Jaure was convicted in 2004 of third-degree sexual assault of a minor in Laramie County, and he’s been a registered sex offender since July 18, 2005.
Then in October 2013, Jaure was convicted again, this time on two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and one of third-degree sex abuse of a minor in Natrona County.
