One of our primary ministry partners on the ground is Yinet, who has helped distribute Bibles freely throughout cities and mountainous regions of Venezuela. Through relationships like this, we can place God’s Word directly into the hands of people who are hungry for truth and hope. The value of receiving a Bible cannot be overstated. One man in Caracas, Hugo Olivares, had searched for a Bible but found them selling for $40 to $120, far beyond what many Venezuelans can afford. Through Yinet, he was able to receive a Bible absolutely free of charge.
Today, Venezuela needs the hope found in Jesus Christ more than ever.
On June 24th, two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela, devastating communities and leaving thousands of families grieving. More than 6,300 people have now died, more than 16,700 people have been injured, and thousands of families have been left homeless or without basic necessities. In communities already facing tremendous economic hardship, many people have been left with little or nothing.
Our contacts on the ground are asking for more Bibles as people search for hope in the midst of tremendous loss. Even through the devastation, we are hearing reports of people turning away from idols and crying out to God for help.
Vision Beyond Borders is currently printing 140,000 Bibles for distribution in Venezuela. A Spanish Bible costs just $3.10 to provide, yet the truth contained in its pages can offer hope and comfort for years to come. We are also working to provide medicines and other essential supplies to people in need, and Vision Beyond Borders is preparing to send a team to Venezuela this fall to serve alongside our partners on the ground.
