An illegal immigrant convicted of making child pornography while living in Laramie, Wyoming, will spend the next 30 years in prison before being deported, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming announced Tuesday.
Maycon Stiven Molina Perez, 23, of Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua, could have faced up to 120 years in prison and fined up to $1.25 million on five felony charges before reaching a plea deal with the federal agency.
Under the deal, Perez pleaded guilty to two counts of production of child pornography and was sentenced last week to 30 years on each count, to be served concurrently, according to court documents.
He could also have been fined up to $500,000 for the two charges, but the plea agreement doesn’t include a fine because there is no reasonable expectation he could ever pay it, court documents say.
However, he is ordered to pay no less than $3,000 restitution to all of his victims who request it.
Perez not only made pornographic material with an underage victim but also distributed it, received child porn himself and was in possession of thousands of explicit images of underage sex acts, according to charging documents in his court files.
As disturbing as those are on paper, the real damage has been done to real people, said Wyoming U.S. Attorney Darin Smith in a statement.
“The pain caused by these crimes is immeasurable, and no sentence can undo the trauma inflicted on the victim and their family,” he said in the Tuesday statement.
“Today’s judgment sends a clear message that no matter where you are from, if you commit the heinous crimes of sexually abusing children, you will be held fully accountable,” he added. “We are deeply grateful to the victim’s family for their courage and to law enforcement for their relentless work in pursuing justice.”
Nearly 2,700 Files
The case against Perez began July 8, 2025, when the mother of a child found a video of Perez sexually assaulting the child on his phone, according to the Wyoming U.S. Attorney’s Office.
“She immediately called the Laramie Police Department and gave officers Perez’s Samsung Galaxy phone,” according to a statement about Perez’s sentence from the agency. “They obtained a search warrant and seized the child’s clothing and other devices.”
In the meantime, Perez had fled to Colorado but was located later that day.
When agents with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force examined Perez’s phone, they found more than 1,400 files of child pornography depicting bestiality, infant/toddler sex assault, and depictions of sadomasochism.
Another 1,280 image files and videos were also found on an iPhone Perez had on him when he was caught in Colorado.
On the Galaxy phone, agents “found the video of the assault on the child which took place in the defendant’s home,” according to the statement, adding that more videos of the same child were found on the iPhone.
Along with making, keeping and receiving the illegal material, Perez also was “sharing files of pornography through multiple apps, including Telegram and WhatsApp,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office reports.
Although in the United States illegally, he’ll do his time for his crimes in Wyoming, according to the judge’s sentencing order.
“Upon release from imprisonment, the defendant shall be delivered to a duly authorized immigration official for deportation,” the order says.
