Dear editor:

Pretty wild reading all the letters to the editor talking about calming down inflammatory and divisive rhetoric in the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination and then immediately having our sitting senator John Barrasso call Democrats "terrorists" and blame them for only wanting to help illegal immigrants without uttering a single word about whether or not he has different ideas to address the 30-40 percent health insurance premium hikes Wyoming insurers have warned about .

Or how our hospitals and health care systems will mitigate the shared costs from the 40,000 Wyomingites that are predicted to become uninsured.

Way to set the tone for our political discourse, Wyoming delegation.

The current state of our dialogue is like suffering through a debate between Daffy Duck and Yosemite Sam.

You can pick which party is each character, it almost doesn't matter; but Mr. Barrasso's comments sure don't improve upon that dynamic.

Someone will probably be tempted to respond to this letter with one explaining how Democrats are, in fact, terrorists.

Doing so will not convince anyone who isn't already on board that train to jump on board, but it would prove my point about how the people at the top influence our national conversations.

In the meantime, I'd really like to discuss the very local issues of Wyoming's coming health care crisis and the implications of a Powder River coal lease going for a penny a ton.

I'd like to hear our people in Congress talk about those things too.

Sincerely,

Peter Howard, Cheyenne
