Two Gillette men died Wednesday when a work truck collided head-on with both their motorcycles on the highway between Wright and Newcastle, authorities say.

Ricky Lynch, 74, and Steve Layman, 68, were riding motorcycles eastbound at about 5332 Highway 450, which falls east of Wright, at about 8 a.m. just before the crash, Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Roascio told Cowboy State Daily on Thursday.

A 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 headed west crossed into the motorcycles’ lane and collided with both, killing the riders, the sergeant added.

Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem confirmed the pickup was a work truck.

Driver fatigue is being investigated as the primary cause of the crash, said Roascio, adding that charges are pending the completion of the investigation.

A crash reconstruction team is processing the scene, he said.

The motorcycles were a 2009 BMW and a 2007 Honda Goldwing.

Weather conditions were clear and the road was dry, said Roascio.

Wallem confirmed both men died on scene.
