An Air Force member is wanted by the federal government on claims he fled child pornography-related criminal prosecution and now plans to kill himself “in nature," authorities say.
Airman First Class Branden Cecil Standifer, 27, was last seen April 19 between midnight and 1 a.m. outside the arrivals section of Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, says a statement marked "urgent" the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation sent Saturday to Cowboy State Daily on behalf of the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
“His mode of transportation leaving the airport is still under investigation,” says the statement, adding, “Standifer is considered suicidal and has plans to commit suicide in ‘nature.’”
The statement says Standifer fled Hurlburt Field, Florida, to avoid military criminal prosecution from “alleged CSAM-related charges.”
CSAM stands for child-sex-abuse material, and refers generally to photographs or videos of children in nude and sexualized states.
The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is investigating the matter along with the U.S. Marshals Service and various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, says the statement.
A wanted poster says Standifer stands 6 feet tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has a light complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, a slim build and a tattoo of a bee on his upper left arm.
He fled his duty station to avoid prosecution April 18, says the wanted poster, and was declared a military deserter April 21.
He has family ties to Michigan and Ohio.
