This story was updated Tuesday afternoon to reflect that the coroner's office released the woman's name and age.
A woman died of apparent gunshot wounds in a Gillette, Wyoming, emergency room Monday night, authorities say.
The Gillette Police Department responded to the 600 block of Carey Avenue at 8:06 p.m. Monday for a report of gunshots, says a statement the city released Tuesday morning. Officers arrived on scene to find an adult female with multiple gunshot wounds. The woman was 33-year-old Haleigh M. Martinez, the coroner told Cowboy State Daily on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency medical personnel took her to the emergency department at Campbell County Health, where she died of her injuries, says the statement.
Police arrested an adult male who was also at the home, who has been identified as the shooter, the statement says.
GPD Deputy Chief Brent Wasson declined to comment further when reached by Cowboy State Daily on Tuesday. That includes who the suspect is and what alleged charges he was arrested for.
The Campbell County Sheriff's Office arrest log says a person was booked into the jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem arrived at the emergency room shortly after the emergency responders brought the woman there. She was pronounced dead “shortly after” she arrived, he said.
The woman’s autopsy is scheduled for Thursday in Rapid City, South Dakota.
