Letter To The Editor: How Do You Get The Sunrise Photos Before The Sun Rises?

Dear editor:

I get up at 5 to 5:30 almost every morning.  One of the things I do is log on and look at the Cowboy State Daily articles.  Interestingly enough, I find a picture of the morning sunrise for that day, when the sun has yet to rise.

Is this the previous days sunrise or do you randomly select sunrise submission whenever they came in and just call them this mornings?

I enjoy reading the topics for the day and will normally read one that interest me, but always look at the sunrise shot, but during the winter at 5 in the morning, I know that’s not this mornings since its still dark outside.

I would suggest indicating the day that sunrise shot was actually taken.  I’m sure that this has been disclosed in previous articles and I just happened to miss it.

 Sincerely,

Marlon Schlup

Dear Marlon,

As our newsletter goes out at 5:15 a.m. every morning, it is impossible to have the same day's sunrise featured.

We rely 100% on readers for our sunrise photos.

Our goal is to always use a recent one. Usually taken in the prior week.

Tuesday's sunrise photo, for example, was from Monday morning.

The same applies to the daily photo that appears on Don Day's weather forecast.

We really do rely on the readers so we encourage people to send them in via email at News@CowboyStateDaily.com or they can send via the submission form located at this page.

Also, and this is really important, we can't use vertical photos without cropping them. And when we crop them, they aren't nearly as good. Take a look at Monday's weather photo.

It's a great photo and we included the vertical in the text of the forecast. But you'll see why we really prefer horizontal.

We need horizontal (landscape) photos.

Thanks for reading Cowboy State Daily.

Jimmy
