The Wyoming Highway Patrol is reminding drivers — once again — to slow down when emergency vehicles are present.

In a dramatic video released by the Highway Patrol on Tuesday, a trooper is shown to be nearly hit by an out-of-control 18-wheeler on Interstate 80 near Rawlins.

A split-second before the commercial semitrailer enters the video, the trooper spots the vehicle and jumps to safety. The 18-wheeler then veers off the road and onto the median.

No one was injured in the incident.

Troopers on the scene were responding to an accident that happened earlier in the day.

“Please remember that emergency personnel wants to be able to make it home safely at the end of their shift,” the patrol said in a statement.

The Highway Patrol said the incident happened Friday, Feb. 17.

Two months ago, an EMT was killed in a similar situation.

A semitrailer collided into an ambulance where responders were attending to a two-vehicle crash west of Rawlins.

The victim, 29-year-old Tyeler Harris of Saratoga, was married and had three young children.

Driver inattention was being investigated as the contributing factor in that crash.
