After reportedly pulling a gun on a man after a night of drinking in Lincoln County, a 26-year-old Hanna man got beaten up, tossed into the bed of a pickup, then driven to an Alpine bar.
From there, he tried to drive home, and was arrested on suspicion of DUI — then also charged with aggravated assault for allegedly threatening the other man with the gun, according to court documents.
Robert Lee Dollar was bound over to Lincoln County District Court after a Tuesday preliminary hearing, appearing in person after posting a $5,000 cash bond.
A witness told law enforcement that Dollar had been drinking at the Bull Moose Bar when the group they were with decided to go fishing, says an affidavit of probable cause filed in his case. After fishing, they went to a house where they continued to hang out and drink alcohol.
“Dollar became extremely intoxicated and tried starting fights with everyone,” the affidavit says.
When confronted, Dollar allegedly went to his truck, returned with a revolver-style pistol and pointed it at the other man while threatening him, the document says.
That’s when the other man disarmed Dollar, punched him multiple times, kneed him in the face while he was on the ground, and knocked him unconscious, according to the affidvit.
Once Dollar woke up, the witness told investigators he and others drove him back to the Bull Moose Bar and left him in his truck, the affidavit says. They reported removing the ammunition from the revolver and placing both the ammunition and the firearm in the bed of the truck.
Behind The Wheel
Not long after, deputies began searching for Dollar’s truck, they found it parked illegally at La Cabana Del Tequila, another restaurant and bar in Alpine about two blocks from the Bull Moose.
The vehicle was reportedly still running, and Dollar was sitting in the driver’s seat, the affidavit says. Deputies asked Dollar to step out of the truck and then seized a revolver in a holster located between the driver’s seat and the door, within arm’s reach.
According to the affidavit, Dollar had blood in both nostrils, but denied that any fight had happened and claimed he could not remember where he had been or how he got a bloody nose.
He also told deputies he did not have any weapons in the vehicle, the affidavit says.
Officers reported finding another open container in the center console cup holder and a crushed alcoholic beverage container on the passenger-side floorboard.
Deputies also observed that Dollar was stumbling, had urinated in his pants, had an unbuckled belt, and red, glossy eyes.
“He had slow responses and slurred speech as we were talking to him” reads the affidavit. “He answered questions in a manner that made no sense and was extremely vague and short with his responses.”
After Dollar was placed under arrest, he became “extremely talkative,” according to the affidavit, and was described as “very comedic,” but he also made several remarks about fighting deputies and others.
Aggravated assault in Wyoming carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison; however, if the offense involves a deadly weapon, the penalty can range from five to 25 years.
