Guest Column: They’re Obsessed With Us Because We’re Doing What We Said We'd Do

The members of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus ran for office because we were tired of being represented by people who said one thing at our doorsteps, then did the exact opposite while in Cheyenne. We were tired of their games, we were tired of government overreach and endless spending.

As it turns out, to these washed up old establishment “Republicans,” doing what you said you’d do is just “campaigning.” To the people, it’s called integrity.

Last session, with the first-ever conservative majority in the Wyoming House, the WYFC followed through on our campaign promises. We called it the “Five and Dime.”  We told the people we represent what we wanted to do and we did exactly that.

We delivered historic property tax relief for Wyoming homeowners. We passed a first-in-the-nation bill to require proof of U.S. citizenship and Wyoming residency to register to vote.

We took action to keep illegal immigrants off our roads. We made good on President Trump’s demand to unleash American energy by prioritizing oil and gas bonding reform and cutting taxes on our energy producers.

We restored the Second Amendment by banning deadly gun free zones, and we protected women’s spaces and sports.

These achievements aren’t just “campaign slogans." Thanks to our conservative majority, they’re in our statute books; they’re the law.

After following through last session on the people’s priorities, Wyoming’s political has-beens like Tom Lubnau are crying foul.

These good old boys claim that conservatives can’t govern. That’s not true. Conservatives govern conservatively, and the establishment doesn’t like it.  They can’t bear to accept the fact that our actions are led by and paid for by grassroots Wyoming people. Their claims that we follow some DC overlord are a baseless attempt to disregard our valid efforts to do what we came to do, and represent those who voted to put us here.

What Tom Lubnau and his comrades on the left are really upset about is that we are successful in doing what we said we’d do: enacting common sense conservative policy broadly supported by the people of Wyoming.

The truth is that the people of Wyoming are done electing Liz Cheney republicans who campaign on fiscal and social conservatism, only to turn around and champion bloated budgets, crony capitalism, green energy carbon capture scams, and even an unconstitutional effort to strip a duly elected conservative statewide official of her duties as superintendent of public instruction (yes, we’re looking at you, Lubnau).

Now that actual conservatives are beginning to make progress and achieve the basic conservative reforms the electorate wants, has-beens and talking heads are more focused on “who” we are. The answer? We’re conservative. And they’re not.

The people of Wyoming see through Tom Lubnau and his ilk. The people elected us to make Wyoming America’s last hope, and we will not stop working until we achieve this goal.

Rep. Rachel Rodriguez-Williams, Wyoming Freedom Caucus Chairman on behalf of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus
