Amy Edmonds, a former state representative serving Cheyenne and former staffer to former Rep. Liz Cheney, has been tapped to serve as Gov. Mark Gordon’s communications director.

Edmonds will begin work starting Monday, according to a statement Gordon’s office released Friday following Cowboy State Daily inquiries.

She will work with the governor’s policy and existing communications staffers on strategy, communications, and public outreach efforts.

She could not immediately be reached for comment Friday.

“I am delighted that Amy Edmonds will be joining our office,” Gordon said in the statement. “She brings a rare combination of message discipline and experience with a razor-edged focus on Wyoming. She listens well, learns fast, and constantly rides for the brand.”

Edmonds served in the legislature from 2007 to 2013, representing District 12 before retiring from public office.

Her husband, Harlan, served the same district from 2015 through 2016.

Amy Edmonds served as communications and policy director for gubernatorial candidate Sam Galeotos in 2018, as a public lands advocacy group director from 2019-202 – and as political advisor for former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney from 2021-2022, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Political Podcasting

Edmonds is no stranger to Wyoming politics. Outside of her tenure in the statehouse, she hosts a podcast titled Let’s Talk Wyoming, which began this January and has aired at least once every week since.

Her episodes run the gamut of political topics and also guests – she’s talked to numerous current and former elected officials, including the governor on July 15. That episode focused on budgets and battling misinformation in today’s climate.

She also noted during that discussion the influence of out-of-state money on Wyoming’s politics and policy.

“I had one out-of-state political consultant characterize Wyoming to me as cheap, meaning you can convince voters to vote one way or another, using very little money,” she said.

The governor said in response that when he first ran for Congress, a good campaign cost $1 million. Now in recent campaigns, it can cost upwards of $4 to $6 million, he said.

Edmonds’ most current episode is with Senate President Bo Biteman, R-Ranchester, and focuses on the life of Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last month while holding an event at Utah Valley University.

She’s written columns for Cowboy State Daily, Wyoming Tribune Eagle, WyoFile, and other outlets.

Governor’s Current Staff

Gordon currently has over a dozen staffers, many of whom are attorneys providing guidance or policy analysts helping with certain subject matters.

His current other press person is Janelle Collins, who began working for the governor in May of 2024, according to her LinkedIn page.

Edmonds assumes her new role following the departure of former spokesman Michael Pearlman.
