Dear editor:
Small businesses are essential to our state’s economy and job market. These entrepreneurs and risk-takers make up nearly 99 percent of Wyoming businesses and employ over 125,000 people. Often, they are closely connected to local communities and offer familiar storefronts on Main Street.
For small businesses to succeed and add value to our community and state, they must have access to the right tools and resources, with technology being a crucial one.
Technological innovations are enabling small businesses to grow, compete with larger companies, reach new customers, and achieve greater success.
From digital platforms to advances in artificial intelligence (AI), technological innovations are leveling the playing field for small businesses. Recognizing the value of this resource, more small businesses are adopting AI and integrating the technology into their operations.
Whether reducing costs, boosting revenue, improving productivity, or competing in a growing market, 91 percent of small business owners using AI say it is helping their business grow.
American tech companies are often the creators of innovations, resources, and tools that small businesses can use. However, if policies that harm our domestic tech sector and block innovation pass through Capitol Hill, small businesses, the economy, and the job market could face challenges.
In fact, 86 percent of small business owners are concerned that legislation handcuffing American technology companies and U.S. innovators could harm their ability to grow.
May was Small Business Month, and it is important to recognize the vital role these companies play in our community and economy. Policymakers should be cautious of any legislation or initiatives that could ultimately harm small businesses.
Technology is a lifeline for many, and keeping American innovation strong will only improve our small business environment.
Sincerely,
Haley Davis, Cheyenne
