Wyoming’s Republican congressional delegation is praising President Donald Trump’s announcement that he brokered a ceasefire in the 12-day war between Israel and Iran.
Sen. John Barrasso told Cowboy State Daily that Trump had delivered peace through strength.
“America and the world are safer because of his actions,” Barrasso said.
Sen. Cynthia Lummis told Cowboy State Daily she was pleased to see the ceasefire and that it was good news for America, its allies and the world.
“President Trump’s leadership of peace through strength is making the world safer,” she said. “My prayers remain with the servicemen and women around the globe.”
Rep. Harriet Hageman echoed her colleagues in the Senate.
"Under President Trump’s leadership, we are seeing historic steps toward stability in the Middle East,” she told Cowboy State Daily in a statement “This ceasefire should be commended by all across the globe."
Trump announced the ceasefire in a Truth Social post Monday afternoon.
“Officially, Iran will start the ceasefire, and, upon the 12th hour, Israel will start the ceasefire and, upon the 24th hour, an official end to the 12 day-war will be saluted by the world,” Trump said. “On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, for having the stamina, courage and intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘The 12 Day War.’”
The conflict began June 13 when Israel launched surprise attacks on Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure. Iran responded to Israel’s attack by launching missiles at Israeli population centers and the Israelis continued to strike Iranian military targets.
The United States joined the war June 21 when it bombed three sites used by Iran to enrich uranium.
