Letter To The Editor: That Gold Mine Letter Writer Doesn't Know What He's Talking About

Dear editor: Folks that author this type of opinion, which are unfamiliar with mining, permitting, remediation and regulations, should not be publishing this negative bias because they simply "don't understand the business."

Dear editor:

Regarding the Letter to the Editor published on May 12, 2025, South Pass Gold Mine – Celebration or Concern?, I've been in the gold mining business for 45 years and no one uses mercury anymore to process ore material.

Cyanide is dealt with by the stringent permitting regulations required by the U.S. government.

New gold mines must establish a cash or insurance bond that more than covers any type of operational or reclamation issues, which adds up to nearly double what the actual cost would be if there is a problem.

The current rules and regulations are very strict and mine operations are far different than they were many years ago when minimal or no reclamation was required.

Folks that author this type of opinion, which are unfamiliar with mining, permitting, remediation and regulations, should not be publishing this negative bias because they simply "don't understand the business."

No disservice intended; that is what I meant by "please catch a clue."

Just my two cents...

Sincerely,

Toby Mancuso
