Two people died and one person was injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening outside Green River, at a junction that isn’t part of a congested detour through the town, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.
A commercial vehicle and a passenger vehicle were involved in the collision at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
It happened at the junction of Wyoming Highway 372 and Highway 374, “right near Peru cutoff road,” on the south side of Interstate 80 outside of Green River, Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Roascio told Cowboy State Daily later that evening.
That location is “not part of the detour” that is routing an extra 18,000 vehicles through Green River in the wake of a triple-fatality, 26-vehicle tunnel crash that happened on the interstate Friday, Roascio added.
The Wednesday crash is being processed as a crime scene, he said.
The road was open as of Roascio’s phone interview at 7:45 p.m., he said.
WHP is the lead agency on the crash. The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Cowboy State Daily that its deputies went to assist west of Green River at about 5:30.
