The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what it calls a“physical altercation” Wednesday night that led to a man allegedly shooting a coworker at a northwest Casper business, sending the victim to the hospital in critical condition.
Sheriff’s office spokesperson Kiera Hett said deputies responded to a business off of Six Mile Road and near U.S. Highway 20/26 just after 7:30 p.m. on a report of a physical altercation between two men at the same company, and that one man fired a single shot at the other in “self defense.”
While deputies were on their way there, Hett said they were notified that the man who fired the shot provided first aid to the victim, and they left the property to seek medical assistance at Banner Wyoming Medical Center.
“Deputies and Fire-EMS located the individuals in the truck on the way to the hospital and transported the male with the gunshot wound by ambulance,” Hett said.
The man who fired the shot was detained, interviewed and released, she added.
Hett said she did not have a condition on the victim as of Thursday, but that he was “critical” on Wednesday night. She said the man who fired the shot had a valid concealed carry permit for a handgun.
“There were numerous witnesses to this incident, all of them have been interviewed and are cooperating with the investigation,” Hett said.
She said the investigation remains active and as of Thursday no arrest has been made.
Hett declined to release the age of the victim, the location of the gunshot wound or the name of the business.
A sheriff’s log shows that the business is located at 2279 Six Mile Road, on the south side of U.S. Highway 20/26.
A nearby businessman told Cowboy State Daily that the business moved into that location just two weeks ago and there is no sign yet on the building. He said there are tow trucks around it.
“I’m not sure who they are or what they do,” he said.
A listing for the building online has a photo of a 5,000-square-foot concrete block building with windows on the side and two large 14-foot overhead doors, and states that the “full 1.9 acres is secured with chain-link fencing.”
