Dear editor:

Rocky Mountain Power has proposed imposing yet another rate hike on consumers already struggling to keep up with both electric and gas rate increases. Add city utility and internet rate increases to that and the burden has pushed residential and business consumers past their limit.

Despite having central ac, I suffered with the extreme heat this summer and raised my thermostat to 80 degrees using 100 kilowatts less per month than last year but paid $15 - $20 more.

As a retired individual my Social Security increases average 2.2% annually; consequently, these constant out of control rate increases are creating a serious financial hardship for me – and many others.

When I read the article above regarding Gov. Abbott and Texas state legislators intervening successfully on behalf of residents to prevent a Centerpoint rate hike, I couldn’t help but wonder where is our governor protector while we are being gouged by gas and electric companies?

Texas Governor Abbott is dealing with literally millions of illegal immigrants flooding his state, traipsing through private property, disrespecting residents and placing an unimaginable burden on state resources yet he found the time and energy to intervene on behalf of state residents.

While many Wyoming legislators, business representatives, residents – and even the Secretary of State spoke out against the rate hikes last year, Gov. Gordon remained silent. Why is that?

Could it be that his green energy policy deals with the devil throwing up ugly wind farms everywhere are contributing to out of control rate increases?

While California benefits from the energy produced, we in Wyoming experience increased energy rates, ugly wind turbines, landfills being inundated with blades that do no decompose, wildlife corridors interrupted and hundreds of birds being killed.

As with any new technology, the problems are usually identified after the fact.

Blade explosions and failures, starting fires, contaminating the ocean and piling up at landfills are increasing. How is this better for the Earth? It certainly isn’t better for Wyoming citizens.

Residents of Wyoming cannot continue to be inundated with these excessive energy rate increases.

Black Hills Energy and Rocky Mountain Power make huge profits annually benefitting from failed green energy policies as they blame green energy implementation for the need to increase rates. Enough.

Time for a change and a return to governorship advocating for and protecting people of Wyoming.

Sincerely,

Julianna Babcock-Souza
