Dave Simpson: I'm Not Buying Any Of This Crap

Columnist Dave Simpson writes, "We're expected to believe that folks who don't want boys playing girl's sports, don't want porn in children's libraries, and don't want children switching genders, are all 'far right,' and don't want 'Wyoming solutions to Wyoming problems.' Not so."

So we're supposed to believe this crap?

We're supposed to believe, according to Liz Cheney, that if we elect Donald Trump again, he will not relinquish the office when his term is up?

She believes that. I've seen her say it. Even though we saw Trump fly off to Florida on January 20, 2021. Didn't Liz see that?

I voted for Liz Cheney three times, and for her father before that. But I sure didn't vote for her in 2022. She's said she'll do whatever she can to prevent Trump from being elected again.

Moving on, we're also supposed to believe, according to President Joe Biden, that America “was flat on its back when I took office,” and that he brought us back from the brink. Some brink. Inflation was at 1.4 percent. We had record employment. The stock market was strong. And we even had progress on Mideast peace with the Abraham Accords.

What America is Joe Biden remembering? Surely not the America most of us recall, except those blinded by Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Most of us remember three remarkably good years under Trump, then the turmoil of COVID, vaccines in record time (if vaccines float your boat), and Democrats demanding that government checks had to exceed what employees were making before the pandemic. (Surprise! After the pandemic they were slow to return to work.)

When people did go back to work, Biden claimed credit for “creating jobs.” Yeah, Joe.

We're supposed to believe, according to Biden, that inflation was at 9 percent when he took office, when it was 1.4 percent. Only after 14 months of his leadership did inflation rise to 9 percent, and suddenly a gallon of gas and a dozen eggs became luxury items.

Inflation stands at 3.5 percent today, but Biden seems to believe this makes things cheaper. When in reality, prices are high and still going UP at 3.5 percent. Some victory.

Turns out Biden's chief economic advisor was a music major in college. Are you surprised?

We're supposed to believe that the election of 2020 was clean as a hound's tooth, even though we learned on election night that some states had temporarily stopped counting votes, that many people got ballots in the mail they never requested, that funny business was going on at some ballot drop boxes, that cardboard was put over windows so observers couldn't observe, that some observers were sent home and then counting resumed, and that a truckload of ballots was somehow on the loose somewhere back east.

Nothing to see here, folks, move along.

If you saw something suspicious on TV, well, you're probably an insurrectionist, and the FBI might want to talk to you.

I believe the last thing Chief Justice John Roberts wanted was another case of the Supreme Court deciding an election, and no lower court judge had to be told that vote fraud allegations should get the cold shoulder in courts across the land.

Here in Wyoming, we're expected to believe that folks who don't want boys playing girl's sports, don't want porn in children's libraries, don't want children switching genders, don't want schools keeping secrets form parents, and don't believe signs prevent mass shootings  - that all these folks are “far right” nuts who don't want “Wyoming solutions to Wyoming problems.” And yet, folks who believe those things keep making gradual progress in the Legislature. That's the good news.

And then there's the biggest whopper of all. We're supposed to believe that after doing everything he could to cripple border security on his first day in office, somehow today President Biden would control the border if only those hated Republicans in Congress would give him the authority.

If you believe that, you were probably born yesterday.

Trump controlled the border with existing laws, despite the relentless opposition of Democrats on all fronts. But Biden demands an act of Congress to do anything. And, of course, more money.

Biden is the last person any thinking American should trust to secure the border.

You have to be a special kind of vapid to believe Biden on anything regarding the border. Look at his record.

I could go on, Your Honor, but I rest my case.

I'm not buying any of this crap.
