The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office is launching a homicide investigation after a homeless Cheyenne man found badly beaten recently at Curt Gowdy State Park died.

Stacy Mullen, known around downtown Cheyenne as Jason Mullen, 50, died from his injuries Sunday at the Swedish Medical Center, according to a Tuesday statement by the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office.

Wyoming State Park rangers first discovered him the evening of Aug. 20, unresponsive in the Curt Gowdy State Park with life-threatening injuries. Authorities believe Mullen sustained the beating elsewhere and someone then placed him in the state park.

Mullen frequented the downtown Cheyenne area, says the statement.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about this crime to contact Detective Delcamp at 307-633-4734 or Detective Sg. Martinez at 307-633-4763.

The statement says informants may be eligible for a $1,000 cash reward, and may stay anonymous.
