A 17-year-old girl died and several other people were hurt in an early morning crash in Riverton on Wednesday when a stolen BMW sedan veered off the road and tumbled down a hill, authorities say.

Someone stole the car overnight Tuesday and the crash happened about 5:11 a.m. Wednesday, according to a statement by Riverton Police Department Chief Eric Hurtado and an RPD call log.

The statement says the girl, a Riverton teen, was pronounced dead at the scene, and others were rushed to a local hospital with injuries.

The vehicle had been stolen that night from the Riverton Golf Course area, a generally affluent neighborhood.

The crash happened on Valley View Road in the hilly region surrounding the Riverton Regional Airport, which sits on a peak overlooking the town.

Riverton Police and the Wyoming Highway Patrol are investigating. Riverton Regional Airport Fire Rescue and ambulance personnel also responded to scene.
