A man with an active warrant is dead following a shootout with a Park County Sheriff’s Deputy on Tuesday afternoon.
According to law enforcement reports, a man gave chase when a sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop.
When the suspect eventually pulled over, he “exited with a firearm pointed at the deputy.”
“The Deputy was forced to engage the male with lethal force and shots were fired,” according to a statement from sheriff’s office spokesperson Charla Torczon.
The suspect was pronounced dead and the deputy is uninjured.
Park County Sheriff Scott Steward said the office will not be releasing additional information the incident is under investigation by the Division of Criminal Investigation.
