A 15-year-old Wyoming youth is being held in Montana after telling police early Tuesday morning that he killed his father in Dayton, about 20 miles north of Sheridan.

According to the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call around 4 a.m. Tuesday from a teenage boy near Hardin, Montana, who said he killed his father in Dayton.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the home in Dayton and found a dead man inside the home.

“We would like to ensure the residents of Dayton and Sheridan County that there is no threat to the community,” Sheridan County Undersheriff Levi Dominguez said. “In order for our deputies and DCI to conduct a thorough investigation, we ask the community to stay away from the area.”

The Sheridan County Sheriff and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation are currently investigating.

The teen is being held in Montana and formal charges to be filed at a later date.
