After a roller coaster ride of uncertainty, Cassie’s Steakhouse is ready to reopen in Cody.
The consortium of Cody business owners that took over the restaurant has been remodeling the interior since last fall. The famous restaurant, with a history as sordid as it is storied, will have its grand reopening on April 17.
It will be the first time the restaurant will be serving dinner since 2024.
“After several months of remodeling, gutting, and fixing, we're ready to share this with everyone,” said co-owner Brian Walker. “Cassie’s is back.”
Steak On The Side
Cassie’s Supper Club was founded by Cody entrepreneur Cassie Waters in 1933. It was assembled just outside the city limits at the time, so Waters could operate her new business with her old business, a brothel.
“There are at least five different structures that have been moved and added into the building,” Cody historian Bob Richard told Cowboy State Daily in May 2025. “One area was divided off into six different rooms with curtains, which was still there in the 1950s.”
Over time, Cassie’s has gained a national reputation for its food and atmosphere rather than its side hustle, regularly appearing on lists of the best Western and historic steakhouses. Famous patrons include George and Barbara Bush, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, and actors Kiefer Sutherland and Henry Winkler.
History has always been important at Cassie’s. What it lacks in aesthetic glamour, it makes up for in atmosphere and nostalgia.
“Our plan is to focus on what Cassie’s was, from the music to the dancing, to the steak,” said Mike Jones, one of the new co-owners. “Everyone in Cody has a good memory at Cassie’s, and we want to bring that back for more memories.”
Better Than Ever
In October 2025, Mike Jones partnered with John Bjornestad, a co-owner of Wyo Dough Pizza and Grill in Cody, Brian and Jen Walker, the owners of Cody Craft Brewing, and Cody resident Seth Cozzens and entered a long-term lease to reopen and revitalize Cassie’s.
As soon as the papers were signed, the partners got to work. They immediately began refurbishing the interior, pledging to have Cassie’s open for business before the 2026 summer season.
“Our goal was to keep it as close to as it was, but bring it up to modern levels,” Walker said.
That was easier said than done. Walker described the lengths they went to modernize the amenities without losing the key characteristics of Cassie’s.
“We've completely remodeled the kitchen, gutting it down to bare concrete and walls, adding in new equipment and fixing old issues,” he said. “The place has been scrubbed several times to clean, dust, and freshen it all up. We've brought in new dining tables for guest enjoyment and really brightened up the place with better lighting.”
Walker said they’ve also made all the building’s historical artwork and décor “more prominent” so people can see everything they remember from Cassie’s glory days (minus the brothel and its employees).
The menu is a return to the tried-and-true staples that earned Cassie’s its reputation as one of the West’s best steakhouses. Filet, ribeye, sirloin, and New York strip steaks will be day-one menu items, along with seafood, pork, and chicken options.
Best of all, in Walker’s opinion, is that the essentials have been locally sourced. All the upgrades and renovations were done by local contractors, and guests will be served nothing but pure Wyoming and Montana beef.
“Anyone can cook a ‘Sysco’ steak,” he said. “Our goal is to go local whenever we can, so all our beef comes from the local area. We want folks to have the real Wyoming experience with real local beef.”
Come And Get It
The entirety of Cassie’s, including both of the on-site bars, will open at 2 p.m. on April 17. Dinner hours end at 10 p.m., but the bars will remain open until 2 a.m.
“Lunch service will be starting this summer in the Saloon, which is currently open and is offering a full-service bar,” Walker said.
From there, it’s business as usual in anticipation of the throng of summer tourists who will start trickling into Cody before the end of April. Friday and Saturday will be live-music nights, and the iconic dance floor will be ready for old and new generations of dancers to take in Cassie’s charm.
There hasn’t been a steak dinner served at Cassie’s since 2024. When the restaurant closed, and its future was uncertain, many feared the historic structure would be demolished and never have a chance to reestablish itself as one of Cody’s go-to dining experiences.
After several months of hard work and dedication, Walker said he and his team of co-owners are excited to invite the Cody community back for a good meal and a good time at the historic steakhouse.
“This is the next chapter of Cassie's, and we can't wait to share it with everyone,” he said. “The time has finally come for dancing, dining, and fun for everyone.”
