Letter To The Editor: Stop Crow Hunting Now!

Dear editor: Treating such animals as disposable targets for unlimited “sport” is ethically indefensible, especially when human–crow conflicts in agriculture can be addressed through humane, nonlethal means.

Crows 3 1 26

Dear editor:

Re: “Wyoming Crow Hunters Can Blast All They Want, But Nobody Eats The Birds” (Feb. 28, 2026).

The article describes how hunters may kill unlimited numbers of crows without a license, and openly notes that “nobody eats the birds — it’s all for sport and nuisance control.” That should alarm us.

Crows are highly intelligent, sentient birds with complex family bonds, sophisticated communication, tool use, and long memories.

Treating such animals as disposable targets for unlimited “sport” is ethically indefensible, especially when human–crow conflicts in agriculture can be addressed through humane, nonlethal means such as removing attractants, deploying deterrents, and using targeted hazing in specific problem areas.

Policies that allow people to “blast all they want” at birds “nobody eats” are out of step with modern science and ethics.

Wyoming should re‑examine its crow regulations and prioritize humane coexistence over unregulated destruction of these remarkable animals.

Sincerely,

Peter J. McKosky, Coordinator, Coexist!
