Dear editor:

I read with some dismay this morning’s opinion piece dealing with the perceived loss of constitutional guardrails where executive power is concerned.

I am not an attorney. I am a 72 year old white male who has voted in every election since 1971. I am a Republican but I would not describe myself as MAGA. I am Christian and have been happily married to the same woman for 47 years.

When I finished the piece I could not help thinking if the same group of legal experts penned a similar piece when President Carter sent helicopters into Iran to free the hostages.

Did they object when President Reagan invaded Grenada to rescue American med students? Did they find President HW Bush at fault for arresting Manuel Noriega? Did they find President Clinton’s missiles into Kosovo objectionable? Were they upset when Barack Obama killed a US citizen with a drone strike?

As commander in chief, the president launched a surgical strike to arrest a drug lord and bring him to justice. He did not declare war. He arrested a thug responsible for killing Americans in numbers greater than died in our Civil War.

I suspect that a lot of what people find objectionable in our president is his style.

While he might be rough, he is what our time in history demands.

So he does not use the correct fork and he is drinking from the finger bowls.

He is protecting us by his actions. I have not seen a lot of care for the American people coming out of Washington for most of my adult life.

Please stop the resistance. He is winning for us at last.

The alternative is just more of the same banal politics practiced by aging corrupt dinosaurs with no accountability.

Respectfully submitted,

Chip Nagle, Jackson
