As a real estate agent in Jackson Hole, Ashley DiPrisco typically sees two types of buyers.
“There are people who like to be up on a hillside and elevated, kind of above the valley,” she said. “And then there are people who like to be on the valley floor and be able to use their land.”
It’s seldom DiPrisco sees a property that appeals to both sets of buyers.
But the home at 2540 Trader Road is that rare exception, and it’s just been listed for sale at $15.9 million.
“This house, and the reason I’m so fond of it personally, is up on a hill, so you do get that perspective where you can overlook the southern Teton Range,” DiPrisco said. “You can see bits of the Snake River.
"But it’s also tucked into an aspen grove, which is pretty unique for being on top of a hill, especially at this elevation.”
That gives the home the best of both worlds — a bird’s-eye view of the landscape around, and the privacy that comes with being on the valley floor.
“The home has floor-to-ceiling windows,” DiPrisco said. “So, when you’re inside, you look out these enormous windows at this forest.”
The forest looks different in every season. Full and green in summer, cloaked in brilliant yellow in fall.
“Even now in winter, when you can have a little bit more perspective because all of the leaves are off, it’s truly, it just makes me giddy, personally,” she said. “I personally love it.
"I like lots of light, natural light, and it’s got this big open feeling, so, every time I walk in this home, I’m like golly, this is spectacular.”
Like Sleeping In A Forest, But Without Wind Or Cold
The 7,800-square-foot, four-bedroom, five-bath home nestled in an aspen forest on Trader Road was among a wave of homes that were built starting in the late 1990s.
This particular home isn’t showing any of its age. That’s because it was extensively remodeled in 2020.
“They just did such a great job,” DiPrisco said. “They lightened up the kitchen. They brought in all top-of-the-line Mille appliances. They have Italian glass cabinets.”
They also added a primary wing addition to the northern side of the house, and it is particularly spectacular.
“It’s unlike anything I’ve really seen in other homes here in Jackson,” DiPrisco said. “Again, just big windows and tons of privacy. The closet space is spectacular.
"Not only is it very generous in size, but it’s all beautiful cabinetry and it’s all behind a door, which I personally love because I don’t want to feel like I have to be organized all the time.”
The remodel added lots of thoughtful finishing touches as well to elevate the space, like soft-close doors and drawers, as well as more natural light.
“The primary bedroom is really spectacular,” DiPrisco said. “You lie in bed and there’s a beautiful fireplace in front of you. You look to your left and, again, it’s floor to ceiling glass and aspen trees.”
It’s like sleeping outside, but with the comfort of a warm and cozy fire and a soft pillowy bed. A little bit like glamping year-round, but without the tent, and with no sacrifice as far as creature comforts go.
Beyond the immediate view outside the window, the terrain sloughs down a bit, an elevation and topography change that is visible through the trees.
“There’s some wild landscaping there, and it’s again very private,” DiPrisco said. “I think if I were waking up in this bedroom, I wouldn’t even close the blinds because no one is looking in.
"And to just wake up with the sunrise and look both ways … it really feels like you’re almost outside.”
More Space
The great room is another spectacular space and a close second favorite for DiPrisco for the house on Trader Road.
“It has a double-sided fireplace, big, vaulted ceilings, and again, that’s where you can stand and you can look and see across the valley, over to the Jackson Hole Mountain resort,” she said. “You can see where the ski runs are cut in. You can see bits of the Snake River. And just kind of stand there and pretend like you are the king of the world."
But it’s not all about the interior for this home.
The 5.37-acre lot has made the most of its outdoor spaces as well, and the first time DiPrisco experienced that it was a “wow” moment, even for an experienced realtor.
“This is very under-assuming from the outside, and that’s by design,” she said. “And it’s hard to convey and hard to photograph. Until you experience it, and then you are inside and you’re in the kitchen looking out or again in the primary bedroom and waking up and literally being like in a forest.
"It’s not something I’ve seen too often here in Jackson.”
While many newer homes are going with big, glass, picture windows these days, those builders have had to clear cut the trees to build the homes.
“They have these dinky little plantings,” DiPrisco said. “As far as their landscape design, it won’t look like this house does for another 20 years.”
The mature landscape includes a courtyard off the kitchen that reminds DiPrisco of the Secret Garden. It brings an old-world European feel.
“You’re surrounded by two sides of the house,” she said. "So, you can have a dinner party out there or just sit on the patio furniture with a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine or whatever, you know, pick your poison, it’s pretty special.”
There’s also a walking path that leads to a little sitting area that overlooks the eastern part of the valley.
“You can see the Elk Refuge from there,” DiPrisco said. “You can see over into the Sleeping Indian mountain range. And then beyond that is the Gros Ventre.
"So, you get like the Western Valley views and the Eastern valley views on this one particular property.”
The sitting area includes a picnic table and bench and is the perfect spot to go out and enjoy a sunrise with a cup of coffee or tea.
The property is also just 15 minutes from downtown Jackson and makes a great launching pad for adventure.
“You drive down the hill, and you turn right and then you’re headed out to go skiing,” DiPrisco said. “Or you turn left and you’re headed to town for dinner.”
